CaterWize Cookie and Website Tracking Policy

Effective date: 27 August 2026

This policy explains how CaterWize uses cookies and similar first-party identifiers on this website. It should be read with our Privacy Policy. We apply the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), including lawfulness, minimality, transparency, security, retention and your right to object.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Similar identifiers may be used to maintain a session, remember choices, understand website use or measure advertising. Some are necessary for the website to work; others are optional.

What always remains available

Essential and functional technologies support security, fraud prevention, page delivery, product search, shopping carts, checkout, customer accounts, quote requests, contact forms, payment and your privacy choices. These are used because they are necessary to provide the website or a service you request, to take steps toward or perform a contract, or to protect CaterWize and its customers. Rejecting optional tracking will not disable these functions.

Limited first-party website measurement

CaterWize uses a lightweight, self-hosted first-party tracker to understand how many people visit, whether visits become engaged, which products and categories attract interest, where carts are left, and whether a journey results in a quote, contact request, telephone, email or WhatsApp contact, account or order. This helps us improve navigation, product information, checkout and marketing effectiveness.

We process this limited measurement for CaterWize’s legitimate interests under section 11(1)(f) of POPIA, after considering necessity, proportionality and the effect on visitors. It uses random visitor and session identifiers and stores attribution, page and event information on the CaterWize website server. It does not store raw IP addresses, full browser fingerprints, heatmaps, keystrokes or session recordings. Email addresses and telephone numbers used to connect a voluntarily identified customer to a previous journey are stored as keyed hashes in the tracking tables rather than copied in plain text.

You may object to this first-party measurement at any time by choosing Necessary only or turning off Statistics under Privacy choices. CaterWize will respect Global Privacy Control where supported. Your choice does not affect shopping, checkout, quote or contact functionality.

Optional statistics and marketing technologies

Google and Meta advertising technologies, advertising click identifiers such as gclid, gbraid, wbraid and fbclid, and other optional third-party tracking are enabled only after the applicable optional-cookie choice. Google Consent Mode may send denied consent signals without setting advertising cookies. We do not use heatmaps or session recording.

Attribution information

We may record source, medium, campaign, content, search term, referring website and landing page. Campaign parameters that describe the visit may be processed with first-party measurement. Unique advertising click identifiers are collected only after marketing consent.

Retention

The first-party tracker is configured to retain anonymous journey events for up to 395 days, identified journey information for up to 730 days, and advertising click identifiers for up to 90 days, subject to legal, accounting, dispute and security requirements. Consent choices are remembered for 180 days. Aggregated or properly de-identified information may be retained for business reporting where it can no longer reasonably be connected to a person.

Your choices and rights

You can accept optional cookies, continue with necessary cookies only, or choose categories through the banner. Use the privacy settings button to change your choice later. You may also request access, correction or deletion, withdraw consent, or object to processing on reasonable grounds as provided by POPIA. Browser-level cookie deletion may sign you out or empty locally displayed cart information, but using our privacy controls will not prevent you from purchasing or contacting CaterWize.
